Why? Well, first of all, you know you want to. They’re a wholesome treat, they’re not here for long, they help local GS organizations stay afloat, and they’re yummy. The newest ones are called “Shout Outs!” and they RAWK. Nom nom nom.

But the real reason you should buy extra Girl Scout cookies this year is because of this brave stalwart champion of justice and freedom, Rep. Bob Morris (R – Naturally) of Indiana. As further proof that Teabaggers will sink to depths unknown in order to pander to wackjobs, Morris was the only member of the Indiana State House to refuse to sign a resolution recognizing the Girl Scouts of America’s 100th anniversary.

Why? Did he get a box of crunched-up Thin Mints or Tagalongs last year? No, oh no, it’s far more serious than that. According to this letter distributed to his colleagues and published in the Ft. Wayne Journal Gazette, the Girl Scouts of America have “radical policies.” It should be noted that two of Morris’s daughters WERE Girl Scouts up till last week (see below).

Morris writes:

This past week I was asked to sign a House Resolution recognizing the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouts of America. After talking to some well-informed constituents, I did a small amount of web-based research, and what I found is disturbing. The Girl Scouts of America and their worldwide partner, World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), have entered into a close strategic affiliation with Planned Parenthood. You will not find evidence of this on the GSA/WAGGGS website—in fact, the websites of these two organizations explicitly deny funding Planned Parenthood.

Those sneaky sneaks! Thought they could pull one over on Morris, did they?! Explicitly denying the connection?! Wellllll, it’s surely a good thing he did a small amount of web-based research after talking to those well-informed constituents, or he never would have turned up this abundant evidence:

Nonetheless, abundant evidence proves that the agenda of Planned Parenthood includes sexualizing young girls through the Girl Scouts, which is quickly becoming a tactical arm of Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood instructional series and pamphlets are part of the core curriculum at GSA training seminars. Denver Auxiliary Bishop James D. Conley of Denver last year warned parents that “membership in the Girl Scouts could carry the danger of making their daughters more receptive to the pro-abortion agenda.”

And where did Morris get his abundant evidence? Why, the World Net Daily, of course! Can’t get more reliable than that! They’re NEVER wrong!

World Net Daily, in a May 2009 article, states that Girl Scout Troops are no longer allowed to pray or sing traditional Christmas Carols.

And if that isn’t enough, Morris left the most damning evidence of all for the very end:

The fact that the Honorary President of Girl Scouts of America is Michelle Obama, and the Obamas are radically pro-abortion and vigorously support the agenda of Planned Parenthood, should give each of us reason to pause before our individual or collective endorsement of the organization.

Every First Lady since Mrs. Hoover has been the honorary President of the Girl Scouts. Even Nancy Reagan.

I challenge each of you to examine these matters more closely before you extend your name and your reputation to endorse a group that has been subverted in the name of liberal progressive politics and the destruction of traditional American family values.

And.. surprise.. the Buzz Kill with the Buzz Cut is making his daughters quit the Girl Scouts!

Now that I am aware of the influence of Planned Parenthood within GSA and other surprisingly radical policies of GSA, my two daughters will instead become active in American Heritage Girls Little Flowers organization. In this traditional group they will learn about values and principles that will not confuse their conservative Hoosier upbringing.

Somehow I bet that decision will come back to sting him when his daughters are applying for college admission. “Extracurricular and community activities… lessee here.. American Heritage Girls Little Flowers?!”

It’s easy to laugh Morris off as just another Teabagger wackjob but this line of thinking has already had some play, even before the letter. From the Washington Post:

A 10-year-old girl offering to sell cookies in Reston  (Virginia) around midday on Jan. 14 was stunned and upset when an adult neighbor responded by denouncing abortion.

“When the woman answered the door, she looked at my daughter and said, ‘We don’t support Girl Scouts because they support abortion, which kills babies,’ ” recalled Kim Douglas, who’s been a troop leader as well as a Scout parent for four years.

“It left my daughter very shocked, confused,” Douglas said. “She said, ‘Mommy, something creepy happened to me.’ ”

Douglas’s daughter didn’t know what abortion was and didn’t ask, which is a relief. The mother said the neighbor had a right to her views, of course, but shouldn’t have shared them with a 10-year-old.

You stay classy, right-wingers.

I feel sorry for the poor schmuck. Not as sorry as I feel for his constituents, or course, but he’ll probably never be allowed to buy Girl Scout cookies again. Do the right thing. Buy extra Girl Scout cookies this year, and maybe mail a box or three to Morris. I know I’m gonna do my part.
